Ashquelon

Ashqelon, classical Ascalon, was inhabited as early as 2000 BCE (end of First Intermediate Period), and is mentioned in Egyptian texts of the Twelfth Dynasty. It also figured in the Amarna Letters. It was generally under Egyptian control until the arrival of the Sea Peoples at the beginning of the Twentieth Dynasty.
